Days like today are just another reason to love living in the Tampa Bay Area. With the temperature in the 80’s today, I hopped in my car and made a 30 minute drive to Green Bench Brewing Co. which happens to brew some of my favorites. It was my first time visiting the brewery even though I have sampled and love many of their ales. Located at 1133 Baum Ave N. in St. Petersburg, Green Bench is St. Petersburg’s first microbrewery.
The first time I sampled a few ales from Green Bench, I was intrigued by the name, as I am with any brewery. I learned that in the early 1900’s, St. Petersburg was known as the “City of Green Benches.” During this time, there were over 2500 benches that lined the sidewalks of downtown St. Petersburg and were viewed as symbols of hospitality since people would gather at the benches and get to know each other. This was the inspiration for the name of the brewery and I absolutely love the history behind the name.
I could certainly feel the hospitality today during my visit and felt right at home. I got there shortly after it opened and before I could blink an eye, the brewery filled up with super cool guests that came to enjoy a cold pint. Some of my favorite selections from Green Bench are: Green Bench IPA, Skyway Wheat, Saison de Banc Vert and Maximo Milk Stout.
With so many selections on tap, it can be hard to decide what to go with. You can sample any selection before making a decision, or if you are like me, you can order a flight. Today I sampled their Rustic Blonde and loved it so much, I am ordering it for the bar where I manage.
Green Bench Brewing Co. is such a great place in St. Pete and I am excited to share that they are giving away a brewery tour for up to 15 people. To enter, simply click on the link below. Good luck!
