New Year, New You #31DaysOfLove


I will never forget the first day I met Liz Kieffer. It was late 2009 and I was a bartender at a local Irish Pub. Every time she would come in, her smile would light up the room and her energy was electric. There was something about her that was very intriguing and I knew that I had to get to know her. One night, a few ladies were in and were asking me to mix these packets of protein drinks with water and then to pour over ice with vodka. Confused, I asked them why they all had these packets and what was the big deal about them. They all pointed to Liz and said that she was the “Shake It Off” lady and that they were working with her to lose weight. I had to laugh since I figured vodka was not on this diet plan and they all said it was their cheat day. To make a long story short, I asked Liz about this “Shake It Off” program, as I was interested in dropping the baby weight I had not yet dropped after having my daughter just one year prior. I made an appointment to see Liz the following week which was the first week of 2010. We met and she got me going on the plan, no alcohol was permitted of course, and I successfully dropped about 20 lbs and felt amazing. That was the start of my friendship with Liz and while I do not see her as often as I would like, she is one of my biggest inspirations.


Right after Thanksgiving, as my jeans were feeling a bit snug, I decided to go and see Liz to get back on track. I have been on the Ideal Protein Plan for almost 3 weeks and have dropped 8 lbs and several inches. While I absolutely love this program, I know it is not for everyone. It works for me and I am feeling better than ever this holiday season. I think this is the first time I have lost rather than gained weight during the most wonderful time of the year. Do I want holiday cookies and wine? Yes, but I am working hard to avoid temptation and will not lose sight of my goals. I will enjoy myself this weekend, especially when I dine at Roux for Christmas Eve Dinner, but as soon as the weekend is over, I will get back to my healthy eating plan until I reach my goal, which is at least ten more lbs. Liz is such a motivator and keeps me going even when I feel like throwing in the towel and ordering a pizza.
