Datz has always been my favorite cheat day destination and not many know this but they inspired me to become a blogger waaaaay back in April of 2010. After dining with them on a regular basis since they opened, I fell head over stilettos in love with them. Since I had moved to Tampa from the spectacular San Francisco Bay area in April of 2003, I had yet to find a place that made me feel at home. Datz was always on the cutting edge of the dining scene and reminded me of so many of my favorite places to eat in my beloved city by the bay. Looking back to that time, I was a homesick single mom who was miserable at my job as a tax assistant at a CPA firm. Tax season had just wrapped up and I was mentally fried. Having always been a creative person with a passion for food and drink, I clearly was in the wrong field. One morning an idea popped in my head, and the rest is my story.
After attending several cooking demos at Datz, they inspired me to try and fall in love with Florida. I mean, I was living in one of the most beautiful places in the world and never took the time to really appreciate it. I was going to share my journey of falling in love with Florida with anyone that was willing to read my blog. When I look back at my first posts from 6 years ago, I can’t help but laugh. Lord have mercy! If you need a good chuckle, just read my post, For Me, Datz is Amore.
Ok, enough about me and let’s talk BURGERS! As my 6th year blogging anniversary approaches, I have been doing a lot of reminiscing on some of my food journeys. As with anything, Datz always seems to do it better and their burgers are no exception. Whether I am feeling happy, sad, lonely or just plain hungry, I know where to go. Last year they introduced their Cheesy Todd which is a decadent, monstrosity of a burger. 100% ground chuck smothered with melted cheddar, lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle on, are you ready for this, two bacon and jalapeño mac n’ cheese buns. Can I get a “hell yeah?” The first time I tried it, I was in the company of fellow bloggers and as we dug into this beast, all manners and etiquette went out the front door. There is no polite way to eat this burger, you just have to dive into the sea of mac n’ cheese. Speaking of which, Primus needs to try this burger. If you don’t know what I am referring to, we can’t be friends.
Datz has another burger that has long been a guilty pleasure……The Vandross Burger. I am sure you know what this beast entails. Imagine a juicy all-beef patty, house-made bacon, onion marmalade, and white cheddar served on a split glazed doughnut. It is almost better than chocolate. I like to refer to this burger as “the sweatpants” burger because after eating it, you just want to slip into a pair of stretchy sweatpants and lounge on the couch for the rest of the day.
So where are you eating on this #MeatyMonday? I am actually headed to Datz right because all this talk about them has me hungry.[?]
