Burgers are my guilty pleasure and I am excited to share this week’s #MeatyMonday special. I am a bit biased on this one because it is the featured burger of the week at my place of employment, EATS! American Grill. A few of us came up with an idea of featuring special burgers on a regular basis and I decided to take it to the next level by taking our guests on a burger tour across America. Each week, I search for popular burgers across the U.S.A. and do my best to replicate them at our two locations in South Tampa and Riverview.
This week’s burger was actually inspired by my favorite barista at Starbucks on Gandy. His name is Danny and he is one of the most animated people you will ever come across. One day as he was making my usual Skinny Cinnamon Dolce Latte, he asked me if we would ever consider featuring a Kansas City BBQ Burger since that is where he hails from and he has raved about it many times. I have never been to Kansas City but after eating this burger, it is on my list of dream destinations.
We start with a Kaiser roll, lightly grilled and build the base with Sweet Baby Rays BBQ sauce and our house made slaw. Next we grill a 1/2 lb Angus patty and top with melted, smoked Gouda. For the finish, we then top the burger patty with sauteed onions, pulled pork and Lay’s BBQ Chips then top it with a hand crusted sesame bun. All I can say is WOW! The smoked Gouda, the crunch of the BBQ chips, the sauteed onions, it just works.
