I have been anxious to go to Flight Restaurant and Lounge in Carrollwood for quite sometime and finally made it there last week. I met a friend who lives in the area and we enjoyed an evening of culinary delights from around the globe. I love their concept which features globally influenced cuisine mixed with their own flair. We grabbed a few seats at the bar, fastened our seat belts and began with cocktails. I tried their Green Tea Gimlet which is made with green tea, elderflower, Aviator gin, honey and lemon. Crisp and refreshing, it was the perfect way to begin the evening.
Our first destination was Thailand and we began with Thai Veggie Lettuce Wraps with warm rice noodles and sweet Thai chili sauce encompassed in crisp lettuce cups. You can add chicken, stir fried steak or shrimp and we chose chicken. Slightly spicy, these are great for sharing and fun to eat. I love anything that doesn’t require a fork, so these were right up my alley.
We stayed in Thailand long enough to enjoy some Sriracha Thai Wings. I guess I was in the mood for poultry as this was my second chicken dish, but I can never turn down wings, especially when Sriracha is involved. I really enjoyed these wings and the flavor was a pleasant balance of sweet and spicy.
The bartender whipped up a few drinks to showcase their cocktail menu. Below is a Jalapeno Margarita. I don’t drink Margaritas that often but when I do, I like them with spice. I didn’t actually try this because I had a long drive back home after, but it looked fantastic and the bartender used all fresh ingredients.
Next he made a Blueberry Mojito. It looked fantastic and I would love to try it on my next visit.
After leaving Thailand we jetted off to Mexico and enjoyed one of my favorites…..Mexican Street Style Elotes, which are roasted ears of corn. I will never forget my first trip to Mexico back when I was a young girl of nineteen. Hungry for travel and exploring the local street food, I tried my first Mexican elote from a food cart and it was a life changing experience. Piping hot and served on a stick, I savored each and every morsel. I will never forget the flavor of the roasted corn slathered with lime juice, chili and cotija cheese. Flight does an outstanding job with their elotes and I love that they are cut and served in smaller portions. Fire roasted with cilantro and cotija cheese aioli, they brought back delicious memories.
As we arrived back in the good ole’ USA , we enjoyed Bacon Mac Balls. Oh no the didn’t! Creamy mac n’ cheese wrapped in Applewood Smoked Bacon, these were almost too good to be true. What is better than mac n’ cheese with bacon? Nothing. These are one of their signature items and something you must try during your flight.
Flight Restaurant and Lounge is an asset to the North Dale area and is well worth the drive from South Tampa. I am anxious to return and try their brunch or meet a friend again for dinner.[?]
