Cheese Me, Please Me

Cheese, South Tampa

Walking into Cheese Please in South Tampa is the equivalent of a cheese paradise. This quaint shop in Palma Ceia is a mecca for cheese lovers and offers some of the world’s best selections. Last week I made my first visit to their new location at 3225 South MacDill and picked up a few of my favorite selections including Barely Buzzed from Beehive Cheese Company (Uintah, UT), Flagship from Beecher’s Handmade Cheese (Seattle, WA) and a new discovery which is a white Stilton with mango and ginger from the U.K. I have been enjoying my selection of cheeses almost nightly with a glass of wine and am excited to share this fantastic place with my fellow cheese lovers in Tampa.

What I love most about Cheese Please is that they are constantly bringing in new cheeses that are not only fantastic, they are hard to find. I spotted two unique cheeses, a Goat Gouda with Potato Chips and a Sticky Toffee Cheddar, both of which you will not find anywhere else in Tampa Bay. During my visit, I sampled a few selections including their Tickler with Red Onions which offers a classic combination of cheddar and onions that really knocked my stilettos off. Versatile and delicious on its own, it goes great on top of a burger or as a starring role in a grilled cheese.

I am a goat cheese fanatic and they offer such a wide selection, it is almost too hard to make a decision while shopping. Their knowledgeable staff will guide you with your selections and find cheeses to suit your palate.  I made two visits in less than a week and was so impressed with their fromage expert extraordinaire, DeAnna Brayton, that I have suddenly become obsessed with using cheese in every dish I make. It is not often that you meet someone who is so passionate about something that you can see it in their eyes. She is truly a gem and I urge you to go in and ask for DeAnna. She will rock your cheese world.

If you are planning a party, look no further than Cheese Please. With a fascinating array of condiments such as wine and beer jellies, honey, pepper jellies, pastes, tapenades and olives, you will find everything you need to create a stunning cheese display.

There are, of course, the numerous shoes that adorn the store which are not only beautiful, they all serve a purpose. From wine stoppers to wine bottle cradles, shoe lovers will squeal with delight with their selection of stiletto accessories.

Open daily (see web-site for hours), Cheese Please is a great spot to meet friends for an evening of cheese and wine tastings, as they have a gorgeous wine bar with a tasting menu that changes often.

I am already looking forward to my next visit and can’t wait to taste what DeAnna recommends.
