I will never forget my first time attending a food blogging conference. It was the May of 2011 and I made the drive from Tampa to Hotlanta for BlogHer Food. It was a magical weekend filled with delicious education, incredible parties and all around fun. The tasty memories are just as vivid today as they were on the drive home. I met some great people that I am still in touch with today. One of the highlights of the conference was winning a Le Creuset 4 1/2 quart, round French Oven.
A lot has changed since I attended BlogHer Food and I think my writing and food photography has come a long way. I look back at who I was in 2011 and am very proud of what I have accomplished in the last two years. Although I have come a long way since then and have grown as a writer, I still have a lot to learn about writing, social media and food photography. Living in Tampa, I have been blessed to have met so many talented food writers that I am proud to have as friends. One of the women I most admire is Isabel of Family Foodie. Her blog is one of the sites that has inspired me on so many levels and I am honored to know her. She has been not only an inspiration but a friend. Her Sunday Supper Movement has made such an impact on me that I have recently become a contributor and plan on becoming a lot more involved in the upcoming months. Growing up, Sunday dinner was always my favorite night of the week and my dad would cook big meals and invite our friends to join us. Many of the kids in the neighborhood would magically appear at our house on Sunday evenings and my dad always extended them a dinner invitation. Now that I am a single mom, I try my best to make every Sunday dinner special with my kids and have been enjoying trying out new recipes that have been featured for Sunday Supper.
Isabel and Sunday Supper are hosting a Food and Wine Conference in Orlando next month and I am beyond ecstatic. Uniting food bloggers, writers, recipe developers, marketing professionals and small business owners, this is the ultimate event of the summer. Speakers include Jaden Hair of Steamy Kitchen, Sara Moulton, Jeff Houck of The Tampa Tribune, my ‘Saucy Sistah’ Michele Northrop of Intensity Academy and many more. The conference will be held at Rosen Shingle Creek from July 19-21, which, to my understanding, is a gorgeous resort. I am really looking forward to this delicious weekend and hope to see you there.
