Ahhhh, the Tapper. Located in Britton Plaza next to Publix, Tapper Pub is one of the most iconic neighborhood bars south of Kennedy. While I have had many cocktails there over the last eight years, today was the first time I tried some of their food. I have to say, it was better than I expected.
With a full bar and great prices, the Tapper Pub is a well-known spot to grab a drink or shoot a game of pool. Since opening their doors in 1967, Tapper Pub has been serving up cocktails and pub food for more than four decades. Since I am a vodka girl, I am quite impressed with their selection which includes some of my favorites like Grey Goose and Belvedere. One nice thing about Tapper is that they always seem to have a good amount of inventory and are rarely out of anything.
I play pool about as good as I can juggle, so I leave it to the pros. With two tables, they are always occupied at night.
Tapper has several comfy booths to sit in while sipping your adult beverage or enjoying one of their menu items. My first visit to Tapper in 2004 was spent at this very booth pictured below. I enjoyed some boiled peanuts and drinks with coworkers. It is amazing how time flies.
I can’t tell you how many times I looked at their menu items which are displayed on plaques above the bar and wondered how the food was. My friends have good taste and when my dear friend Barbara told me they had great sandwiches, I knew I had to have one. Today I asked Kay the bartender what she recommended and she said that both their Reuben and Southwestern Grill were the most popular. I went with the Southwestern and it was, as I like to say, grubalicious.
Made with Smoked Boars Head Turkey, crispy bacon, Swiss, and a tad bit of mayo on grilled rye, this sandwich is a winner. I felt like I was eating at an upscale pub. The only thing missing was an ice-cold beer or a cocktail. I had to stick with Diet Coke since I was driving. 🙂
The Tapper Pub truly surprised me with their delicious sandwich today and I can’t wait to try more of their selections. Open daily until 3 am, Tapper serves food up until 2 am. I am telling you, if you are looking for a late-night bite, look no further than the Tapper. The only con is the cigarette smoke which I have a hard time with. Today was not that bad as it was early afternoon and not that crowded.
