We all have those places where we seem to find ourselves at the end of the night, and for me that place is Elmer’s. Located at 5205 South MacDill, just south of Gandy, Elmer’s is the ultimate dive bar that caters to Redskins fans. Open daily from 11am until the wee hours of the morning, Elmer’s serves up bar food classics and drinks that are not for the faint at heart. With two locations, Ybor (original location) and South Tampa, Elmer’s is a well known dive bar in Tampa.
One of the reasons I enjoy going to Elmer’s is because of the staff. Misty, Jeannie, Lindsey, Joe and Rick, to name just a few, always know what I want and have my drink ready before I sit down. Since I am a “lightweight,” they make my drinks less strong than normal, which I appreciate. I have been a regular at Elmer’s for about two years and have gotten to know their wonderful staff. Misty is the bartender I normally see and she is wonderful.
When it comes to food, Elmer’s has some great selections. As you know, I am a wing connoisseur and have been featuring wings on my blog every Wednesday since July. Elmer’s has long been in my top ten list of favorite wing places with plenty of available flavors such as mild, medium, hot, way hot, garlic, spicy bbq and teriyaki. My favorites include hot, garlic and my own special mix of teriyaki and fresh garlic. Wings are always drums and are available naked or breaded. Monday nights feature all you can eat wings and you will find me there from time to time. 🙂

One of my other favorites on their menu are Gator Bites which are only available on occasion. Since living in Florida, I have yet to see an actual alligator but I have eaten plenty. Fried to perfection and served with a duo of sauces, they are mighty tasty. The last few times I have been in they have not been available and I hope they bring them back soon.
Gator Bites (please bring them back!)
If you are ever out in the SOG area or Ybor, be sure and stop by Elmer’s for a strong drink and great wings. You can almost always find me at the South Tampa location most Friday nights.[?]
