While spending the afternoon in Ybor, I went to Gaspar’s Grotto for the first time. Yeah, shocking, I know. I was browsing their menu and spotted something I just had to try…..Chocolate Habañero Wings. After all, it was Wingsday and that flavor sounded pretty spectacular.
Located at 1805 East 7th Ave., Gaspar’s Grotto is one of Ybor’s iconic spots. With a fun pirate theme and menu filled with Tampa classics, Gaspar’s is the ideal place to grab lunch or meet friends for a drink. I was impressed with their beautiful patio which was filled with people enjoying the afternoon among beautiful surroundings. I had to kick myself for not making it there sooner.
As much as I wanted to try their famous Cuban sandwich, I opted for their Chocolate Habañero Wings. I am always anxious to try new and exotic flavors and this was right up my alley. Unique in flavor, the sauce was bold and rich with a tad of spice. Needless to say, I really enjoyed it. The wings were fried just right and nice in size. In addition to this unique sauce, they also offer BBQ, Mojo, Caribbean Jerk and Fiery Classic.
With a diverse menu and great specials such as a $2 beer and shot every day until midnight, Gaspar’s Grotto is a place I plan on getting to know better. Be sure to check them out if you are in the area.
