Daily Eats in SoHo will always have a special place in my heart, for it was there that I went into labor with my son back in April of 2006. Yep, true story. I was having brunch with a friend and as soon as I finished my pancakes, I began to feel very strange. My friend took one look at me and knew what was happening, so she took me home so I could get to the hospital. Three and half hours later my son Rocco made his feisty entrance into the world. He is six now and loves to hear the story of the day he was born. On New Year’s Eve, he asked if we could go to Daily Eats so he could see where I was eating before he “came out of my tummy.” The two of us then headed to SoHo for a mother-son brunch.
Located at 901 South Howard in the heart of SoHo, Daily Eats has been a popular dining spot for quite some time. As part of the Ciccio Restaurant Group which includes Green Lemon, Lodge, Ciccio’s California Cuisine, Water, Ciccio’s Lodge and Ciccio’s St. Pete, Daily Eats is known for their innovative menu and casual-chic decor. Since it was New Year’s Eve, I started off with a Grapefruit Mimosa and it was just what I needed. Crisp and refreshing, it was the perfect way to celebrate the last day of 2012.
As much as I wanted to be bad and indulge in pancakes, I was drawn to their omelets and went with, you guessed it, the Californian. You can take the girl out of California but you can’t take California out of the girl. Made with shredded turkey, bacon, Swiss and fresh guacamole, it was outstanding. I have always loved guacamole on my omelets and this one really hit the spot. For my side, I chose grits and they were piping hot and delicious. I had to laugh because I had never had grits until I moved to Florida and it was funny that I had grits with my California omelet.
As much as I wanted another Mimosa, I switched to their famous coffee which is always piping hot and served in the cutest mugs. I really need to get one of their mugs to add to my collection.
My son Rocco is only six but eats like a teenager. He went with a burger and fries and said it was “deeeelicious.” I was very impressed with the staff and how much our server interacted with my son. They treated him like a king and he had a great time.
Rocco decided he wanted a shake, so he looked over their cool selection and went with the Oreo Crunch. Had I not been so full I would have loved to have tried one, especially the Cap’N Crunch shake. Now that sounds tasty!
Rocco loved his shake and we both left happy and pleasantly full. If you are looking for a great spot to grab a bite, be sure to check out Daily Eats. Their breakfast menu has everything from pancakes and omelets to breakfast bowls and a gourmet Benedict selection. They also offer light and healthy selections for those trying to stay true to their New Year’s resolutions.
