Happy New Year and Happy Wingsday! I missed you last week and due to the back to back holidays, I was unable to try any new wings but I made up for it this past weekend. Today’s feature was a delightful accident. I was dining at Green Lemon (formerly known as The Lime) in SoHo this past Friday and while deciding on an appetizer, something caught my eye. This something was none other than chicken wings with spicy guacamole sauce. Guacamole sauce? Had I just died and gone to heaven? Guacamole is one of my top ten favorite things and I consider myself a connoisseur. After tasting Green Lemon’s god-like guac with fresh chips, I knew I had to try these wings. Their guacamole is made fresh table-side and you can request any specifications, which I love. Definitely a conversation piece, their guacamole is one of their trademarks.
As soon as the guacamole was placed on the table, it was as if a light from heaven was shining down on it. Yeah, it was THAT good! I had to contain myself and try not to eat the whole bowl.
As I enjoyed my fresh guacamole while waiting for my wings, I sipped on a Jalapeño Margarita. Hands down, it was one of the best margaritas I have ever had. With fresh, muddled jalapeños, fresh lime juice and premium tequila, it had a nice amount of spice and an earthy flavor. I could have easily had another, but I decided to switch to beer to enjoy with my wings.
And now for today’s main event……Green Lemon Chicken Wings with Spicy Guacamole Sauce. Not to sound cheesy but HOLY GUACAMOLE were they good! I was so excited I could barely snap a photo. These wings were so good that after six months of eating wings all over Tampa Bay, I was truly blown away. Only a few places have really knocked my stilettos off and Green Lemon is one of them. Just imagine, perfectly fried wings with savory flavors of guacamole and spices. I could not stop eating them and finally surrendered when the server reminded me I had a trio of tacos coming out. Embarrassed, I smiled and asked for a box. They tasted just as good for lunch the nest day. 🙂
I was full and on a chicken wing high, but that was not going to stop my from trying some of their famous tacos. I opted for The Street Trio, which is three scrumptious tacos of your choice. Difficult to narrow it down to just three since they offer so many amazing combinations, I went with Crispy Mahi, Carne Asada and Gigante Chicken. Let me just say, this California girl loves her tacos and these were phenomenal. My favorite was the Gigante Chicken because it is like a chicken wing in a tortilla. Avocado glazed buffalo chicken, crispy onions, julienne jalapeño and celery with fresh blue cheese crumbles and lime Caesar dressing, this taco just rocks! I love whoever created this masterpiece.
Just as yummy were the Crispy Mahi and Carne Asada. There is nothing like a fresh fish taco and the Green Lemon proves it with crispy, battered Mahi, cabbage, cilantro, pickled red onions and avocado aioli. Simple delicioso! The Carne Asada is a classic with grilled marinated skirt steak, salsa fresca, cabbage and tomatillo sauce. Carne Asada tacos have long been a favorite of mine.
After all that luscious spice, I decided to cool down with a sweet ending and ordered their Banana Churritos. Creamy vanilla ice cream, fresh sliced bananas and piping hot cinnamon churritos topped with fresh whip and a caramel drizzle, this was the perfect ending to an epic night.
