I will never forget my first visit to Datz a few years ago. While browsing their marketplace and dessert counter, one of the many things that caught my eye was the gorgeous array of artisan chocolates made by local chocolatier William Dean. After eyeing them for almost 3 years, I finally splurged and purchased a few pieces of decadent deliciousness this weekend. Almost too beautiful to eat, I am excited to share this sweet discovery with you.
With eclectic selections such as Biscotti, Banana’s Foster, Lemon Grass & Coconut, Lavender, Mandarin Balsamic, Mexican Mango, PB&J, Pear and Ginger Caramel, Port with Fig & Plum, Rosemary Caramel and more, each piece is a tasty piece of art and will leave you in taste buds in a state of euphoria.
This past weekend I stopped by Datz for a quick bite and decided to purchase a few pieces of William Dean Chocolates so I could finally try them. With so many to choose from, I went with Lemon Grass & Coconut, Lavender, PB&J, Pear and Ginger Caramel, Port with Fig & Plum and Mexican Mango. I took them home and enjoyed them with a glass of Pinot Noir. Each one was spectacular and my favorite was the Pear and Ginger Caramel which had a nice combination of sweet with a little spice from the ginger. The caramel just melted in my mouth for the ultimate finish.
Founded in 2007, William Dean Chocolates is located in Bellair Bluffs, Florida and each piece is made by hand in small batches. Founder and Chief Chocolate Officer, William Dean Brown is a former “dot commer” who co-founded a software company and then went on to went on join an emerging technology company. After the infamous dot.com bubble burst he relocated to Tampa Bay and found himself intrigued with the craft of artisan chocolates. He had found a way to express his creativity and soon after William Dean Chocolates was born.
Aside from gorgeous, artisan chocolates, William Dean is also known for other confections such as Macaroons, Candied Ginger, Pate de Fruit, Nougat Montlimar, Chocolate Bars and more. I am a huge fan of their macaroons and can’t go to Datz without picking up a few.
I am giving away a small box of William Dean Chocolates to a reader. To enter, simply comment on this post and tell me why you want a box. I will pick a winner on January 31st so you can receive them just in time for Valentine’s Day.
