Happy Wingsday wing luvahs! I hope everyone is getting ready for the holidays and as December is drawing to a close, I will be writing double wing features in January as my search for the best chicken wings in Tampa Bay continues. I have had so much fun doing this and really do not want it to end. I have something fun to replace “Wingsday” and will let you all know on New Year’s Eve.
Last night, I had the opportunity to try wings at a local “SOG” dive bar that so many people have told me about. This was my second visit to this place and let’s just say, it was quite memorable. Now, tell me where can you eat tasty wings while sipping wine out of a beautiful champagne glass all while listening to 2112 by Rush? Ladies and gentlemen, I present you, Big Mo’s!
Located at 6231 South Dale Mabry, Big Mo’s is only two short miles from my house. Having driven past it numerous times, I finally stopped in a few weeks ago to try their wings. It was a Tuesday night about 11 pm and they were no longer serving food, so I made it a point to go back and try their wings. Last night was my lucky night so I headed over there for a basket of their tasty wings that I had heard so much about.
With flavors such as Mild, Medium, Hot, BBQ, Teriyaki, Sweet Thai Chili and Garlic Parmesan, I went with the garlic so as to try something a little different. As they were brought out, I could smell the garlic and Parmesan. I must say, for a dive bar, I was pretty impressed with their wings. They were lightly fried ans seasoned beautifully. I could really taste the garlic, which made me happy.
The wings were tender and moist. I did not need to use the dressing since the wing flavor was so darn good. As I nibbled on my wings, 2112 by Rush came on and it was just perfect. I am a huge Rush fan and this was my first time eating wings while listening to Rush. I also chatted with some of the regulars and everyone raved about the wings. The crowd at Big Mo’s is very friendly and welcomed me with open arms.
One of the coolest things about Big Mo’s is the fact that they use very nice champagne glasses for wine. I had a glass of Barefoot Pinot Grigio (not my favorite but it was fine on this particular evening) and enjoyed it in a beautiful red and white flute. It was very festive. They feature daily drink specials and have great prices on pitchers of beer.
Big Mo’s is a friendly dive bar in South Tampa. With a great bar menu and daily specials, it is the perfect spot to grab a cold one and chat with locals. They also serve breakfast Friday-Sunday. Be sure to check their web-site for weekly updates and new specials. With trivia, Golden Tee, darts and Silver Strike Bowling, you are sure to find something fun in addition to their numerous TV’s. Be sure to stop in and check them out. Until next Wingsday……….ciao for now.
