The Sunshine (Thrift Store) Of My Life

#31DaysOfLove, Shop Local, Shopping, South Tampa, Thrift Stores

Friends often compare me to Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and the City. I have a shoe obsession, I love to write, Cosmos are my drink of choice and I can spend hours in thrift shops browsing through racks of clothing.  Back home in California, one of my favorite pastimes was to spend an entire Saturday hitting all the vintage thrift shops in San Francisco. I have found some incredible pieces that I still cherish to this day. Every trip home includes a shopping spree at my favorite spots and I always come home with some great finds.

Since I have lived in Tampa, my thrift store obsession has continued. One of my favorite local shops is Sunshine Thrift Store located at 4304 S. Dale Mabry. Conveniently located close to home and right next door to my bartending job at EATS! American Grill.  They also have a location in St. Petersburg.

Sunshine Thrift Store is my go-to spot for everything. With a large selection of clothes for men, women and children as well as toys, handbags, SHOES, furniture, electronics, household items, etc. there is something for everyone.  Over the last few years I have picked up cool martini glasses, tons of great shoes, dresses, jewelry and Halloween accessories.

I stopped in yesterday with my daughter and left with two pairs of shoes and an Ann Taylor top, all for just $16.96! Their shoe selection is pretty impressive and I have found designer shoes that are either brand new or very softly worn for as low as $6 a pair. My shoe obsession can get quite expensive, so in order to satisfy my shoe craving, I need to save money when possible.

I adore these red and black shoes by Sergio Zelcer.  For $6.45, how could I not take them home?

Sunshine Thrift Store has also satisfied another obsession of mine…..glassware! From martini glasses to wine glasses, I have found some cool pieces. As a bartender, I have quite an extensive collection and everything I have is unique.  The average price for a nice martini glass is about $0.80.

Being a single mom of two kids, I try to save money on their clothing as well. Sunshine Thrift Store has a wonderful collection of children’s clothing and everything is gently worn and in great condition.

Another section I love to browse is their jewelry.  Over the last few years I have found pieces for work, formal attire and even Gasparilla. If you see something you like, be sure and grab it because items go quick.

Sunshine Thrift Store is a wonderful place to shop local and in doing so, you are giving back to the community.  Here is a little information about them, courtesy of their web-site:

Sunshine Thrift Stores, Inc is a Florida based for-profit corporation formed in 1982 to assist local charitable organizations with their fundraising efforts. By becoming the exclusive purchaser of clothing and other household donations the charitable organization receives, Sunshine Thrift Stores is able to supply jobs to individuals, keep useable items from entering the landfill, and provide clean serviceable clothing and other needed items to the community at deeply discounted prices. This relationship allows for the charitable organization to focus on their core fundraising mission and allow Sunshine to focus on operating retail outlets. The monies received from the thrift stores assist the social service organization in the implementation of programs that may have otherwise been unattainable. These programs are also promoted though the interactions of the thrift stores and the public.

Our Thrift Stores carry a complete line of men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, household and miscellaneous items, bedding, linens, furniture, jewelry, shoes, and much, much more inside a retail store the size of a grocery store. Each location has over 13,000 square feet of items for sale. To make things easy for our customers, the stores are organized by gender, type of clothing, condition, size and even color in some instances. Our stores are open 7 days a will, 362 days per year. With over 30,000 different items stocked at each location every week, there is something for everyone! Visit a location near you today!

As you can see, by shopping local you are helping the community. I love this store and will continue to support them.

I am very excited to share a little something from this wonderful store.  I have a $10 gift certificate for a reader. To enter, simply do any of the following and you will receive one entry per item. Simply comment on this post for each item completed.  I will pick a winner Sunday, December 2.  Good Luck!
