Happy Wingsday!!!! Today marks my 20th week featuring wings in Tampa Bay and out of the 20 places I have tried, I have selected my top ten favorites which I will reveal next week with a special recap on each place. Please continue to suggest places, as I really do appreciate all of your recommendations.
This past Monday I enjoyed lunch with my favorite guy at Brewburgers in South Tampa. Located at 3681 S. Westshore Blvd, Brewburgers has been open since April of this year and has received a warm reception from locals. Known for their famous ‘Guinness Burger’ and vast selection of beers, Brewburgers is a new concept that is quickly gaining popularity among burger connoisseurs. With both indoor and outdoor seating and plenty of flat-screen TVs, Brewburgers is the perfect spot to catch a game and enjoy delicious bar food.
Since the weather was so nice, we grabbed a seat on the patio and were quickly greeted by both a server and one of the owners. I was immediately impressed with the friendliness of both and knew we would have a great experience. As much as I wanted a beer, I opted for an iced tea and looked over their impressive menu. I must say, they have a fantastic selection of appetizers, burgers, wings and salads. Since I saw so many items I want to try, I will be featuring them again in the very near future. For today, I will be focusing on their wings. 🙂
With wing flavors such as Mild, Medium, Hot, Honey BBQ, Lemon Pepper, Sweet Thai Chili and Mardi Gras, I was torn as to what I wanted to order. Before I could decide, I spotted something that I just HAD to try: Fire-Roasted Poblano and Jalapeño Popper Bites. I have a weak spot for poppers and these just sounded too amazing. Chili-flecked bites stuffed with charred, diced poblano and jalapeño peppers, creamy blended Asadero and Mozzarella cheeses, whole roasted corn and black beans. Served with a side of Roasted Red Pepper & Jalapeño Ranch dipping sauce, they were incredible. My last few experiences with poppers at local places have been sub-par and these really rocked my world. The two cheeses blended so well with the spice from the peppers and the black beans and corn were like an additional, tasty bonus. They definitely have a Southwestern flair and there is no doubt I will be ordering these again!
I had my eye on the Mardi Gras Wings but was also considering the Sweet Thai Chili. Our server said both were her favorite so we ordered both to share. When she brought the wings to the table, I was blown away by the size. They were HUGE! After twenty weeks of eating wings, these were some of the largest that I have seen. As expected, the Sweet Thai Chili were outstanding and I loved that they were not overly soaked in sauce. There was just the right amount and the sauce was the perfect blend of sweet and spicy.
Next up were the Mardi Gras wings which were dry rubbed in Cajun seasonings. They were fantastic. As much as I love sauce on my wings, every now and then I enjoy dry wings with seasonings. Nice and spicy, these wings would pair so well with a draft beer. I know what I will be getting next time!
My first visit to Brewburgers was wonderful and I look forward to going back and trying a burger and a brew. Be sure and stop by if you are in the neighborhood and ask about their daily specials.
Until next Wingsday……………………cheers!
