Love at First Bite at Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza

Kid Friendly Places, Restaurants, Wingsday

Happy Wingsday! As I enter my third week seeking out the best wings in Tampa Bay, I must say that this is turning out to be a delicious adventure. My list of places to visit is about a mile long and I am looking forward to each and every one.

I am VERY excited about today’s featured wings. These are already in my top ten and I have only had them twice. These fabulous wings are none other than Anthony’s Original Coal Oven Roasted Chicken Wings from Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza.  Served with carmelized onions and focaccia bread, these wings are beyond mouth-watering.  I first heard of these wings from one of my favorite bloggers, The Hungry Housewife.  (By the way, her blog is INCREDIBLE so be sure to take a look). She loves these wings so much that she created her own version of their recipe.  After reading her post, I not only tried her recipe, I put Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza on my list of restaurants to visit. At the time they had Tampa Bay locations in Clearwater, Carrollwood and Brandon. I learned that one was slated to open in South Tampa so I knew I would be going there regardless. Shortly after they opened, I headed over with my bambinos and some friends and we had a wing-tastic experience.

After placing my order with the server, I was anxiously awaiting for the wings to arrive at my table. I had heard so much about them and the excitement was killing me.  As the server brought them out, I took one look and smiled. The gorgeous plate of wings appealed to all of my senses. The scent of the warm wings was intoxicating! Just imagine fresh, coal oven roasted chicken with carmelized onions.  Mama mia! The presentation of the wings was simply gorgeous with  vibrant green Italian parsley sitting on top of the wings and  fresh, hot foccacia bread nestled right underneath. My first bite into one of Anthony’s Original Coal Oven Roasted Chicken Wings was like that first kiss from your crush in that they simply made me feel good all over.   My son Rocco took one look at them and said, “Oh mommy, I WANT THOSE!” I gave him a few on a plate and he began to sing, ‘There’s a party in my tummy, so yummy, so yummy.” They were everything I imagined and more.  Truly, love at first bite. ♥

Now, what is it that makes these wings SO good? After talking to the manager, I learned a lot about the South Florida-based concept and what makes them so special.   Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza uses 800-degree anthracite coal-burning ovens and the highest quality ingredients.  Anthracite is known to be the “cleanest” of coals, burning smoke free with extremely high heat to create a unique taste and perfect pizza along with other “Italian Soul Food” dishes such as their famous wings. Now, let me just say, their pizza is fantastic and I will be featuring their pizza in another post. There are many more items on their menu that I want to try, so it looks like I will become a regular at the South Tampa location.  If you are ready to look at some mouth-watering menu selections, click here.

Here is a little background on the concept:

Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza launched in 2002 and has grown to 33 restaurants throughout Florida, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, New York and Connecticut.  Other Tampa Bay area locations include 1912 W. Brandon Blvd. in Brandon, 2532 McMullen Booth Road in the Northwood Shopping Center in Clearwater and 13020 N. Dale Mabry Highway in the Carrollwood Village Shoppes in North Tampa.  All three opened in 2009.

I really love that Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza has embraced social media on platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare.  If you are on foursquare, I have great news.  When a customer checks-in on Foursquare at any of the stores in Tampa Bay (as well as all 34 of their stores), they unlock their “Two Wing Check-in” special.  All you need to do is show your screen to your server and you will get two wings FREE just for visiting!  How cool is that?

As always, I love to share my delicious experiences with my readers and I have a $25 gift card to Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza to give away.  You will get one entry for each of the following that you complete as well as filling out the form below.  Be sure to comment on this post once you complete each item, as each comment will count as an entry.  Comment if you already do any of the below listed items.  🙂
