I can’t believe I have been in Tampa for nine years! It seems like just yesterday when I moved here from California as a homesick girl who didn’t know many people. Nine years later, this California Girl is finally feeling like Tampa is home and I have been incredibly blessed to have crossed paths with some amazing individuals in Tampa Bay. It has also been two years since I decided to go on a quest to fall in love with Florida and began my blog as a way to showcase my appreciation to the people and places that have made me feel at home. Tampa is a beautiful city and I am proud to live here.
Tampa has gone through so many changes in the short nine years that I have been here and I enjoy watching our city grow and prosper. One of my favorite places to go running and attend outdoor events is The Tampa Riverwalk. Located in the heart of downtown along Hillsborough River, this gorgeous waterfront project is going to be very exciting for our city. With plans to reshape the area that stretches from Channelside to Tampa Heights along the Hillsborough River, there is much to be excited about! Plans include a continuous pedestrian walkway that will feature pedestrian amenities, restaurants, retail shops, art, parks and open space.
The Tampa Riverwalk is so important for the economic growth of our city and not only will it integrate residential living, social and educational activities as well as the cultural arts district; it will truly make downtown the heart of the city. I am excited at what the future of the Riverwalk holds for Tampa and our community.

One of the most exciting events at The Tampa Riverwalk is Rock the Park, which is a free monthly concert series held the first Thursday of every month. Located at Curtis Hixson Waterfront Park, shows run from 6:30 – 9pm and feature local talent. I can’t think of a better way to kick off the weekend that listening to great talent in a beautiful setting. Growing up in Northern California, outdoor concerts were a big part of my life and Rock the Park makes me feel right at home.
Many of my friends in Tampa enjoy spending time at Riverwalk. My friend and Tampa native, Michelle Glenn-Lashiew, spends a lot of time at Riverwalk. When I asked her what she most enjoys about it, she stated: “Riverwalk is such a refreshing area to share quality time with friends and family! I love how Riverwalk allows you to be yourself while enjoying activities in downtown. Riverwalk is a beautiful place for people to relax and play downtown.” I couldn’t agree with Michelle more and I plan on thoroughly exploring all the area in the next few months. I will be doing features on different areas and amenities along the Tampa Riverwalk and sharing my discoveries with all of you.
This Friday, May 4th, there is a very exciting event taking place at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park and I know it will be a packed house. Several of Tampa’s best restaurants will be participating in a “Burger Showdown” to see who has the best burger in Tampa Bay. Participants include:
